God of charlotte

So there's some guys in Northern Ireland (Belfast) who got invited to lead worship in Thailand. After crazy events they ended up in a town called Pattaya. I read an interview with them and most of the stuff they say about Pattaya I really can't even say on here. It's probably one of the most evil cities in the world. 10s of thousands of prostitutes in this town alone. Many are child prostitutes. The sex industry is 90-95% of Thailand's income. So, if there's anywhere God is not... it's probably this city, right?

Somehow these guys ended up playing in a brothel. These places aren't where you'll find your local Bible study. They're wicked places where men come in & pick out 2-3 prostitutes to "rent"... some of them only 10 or 11 years old! They were worshipping God in this place with a handful of believers attempting to spread God's fame. They looked out over this wicked city and somehow God gives them the faith to spontaneously sing these words...

You're the God of this city
You're the King of these people
You're the Lord of this nation
You are

You're the light in this darkness
You're the hope to the hopeless
You're the peace to the restless
You are

There is no one like our God
There is no one like our God

For Greater things have yet to come
and greater things are still to be done
in this city

For greater things have yet to come
and greater things are still to be done here

My eyes swell with tears even thinking about this story. Tears of hope as my heart almost bursts with faith in an amazing God who is not done in Pattaya. Even though it looks like He is nowhere to be found... He is there & there's greater things to be done in that city!

*As I sang this song for the 1st time in worship a few weeks ago I was also overwhelmed with emotion & faith that God is the God of this city - Charlotte. I started thinking of the thousands of people in this city that are far from God and are without satisfaction. God has been stirring a greater passion in me over the last several months for my hometown. My heart breaks for this city and for the faces of the people who aren't experiencing crazy satisfaction in a glorious God. God loves this city & He's doing some great things here as we speak. But, I am confident that greater things are still to be done here. It is no accident that Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in the country... I believe God is behind this for His purposes. God's got some amazing plans for His fame in this city. He's the God of Charlotte and He is not done here yet... nope, not even close.

**And He is NOT done in your city either. Maybe you have thought He is... but I promise you He is not. I believe that greater things are still to be done in your city.

Pretty cool to think that God loves all the "hard to love people" in your city & He wants their worship. What does this ignite inside your heart for your city? I'd love to hear about what city you're in, what God is doing there currently, and/or what greater things you believe God is going to do there... Drop a comment and let us all know what's goin' down in your city.

There is no one like our God
There is no one like our God

For Greater things have yet to come
and greater things are still to be done
in this city

For greater things have yet to come
and greater things are still to be done here

Patrick,
That is the theme song for our missins conferance this year. Thought that was cool that you blogged about it. God is not only the God of Charlotte, but he is of Blacksburg, Matthews, the world and He will be glorified. Keep blogging I love to read your thoughts. Peace In...

Patrick...
God is doing some amazing things in KC...God is stirring within the hearts of His people to get back to the basics of what is truly important, to leave behind ritual and tradition and to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth...the true worshippers are seeking Him! Thank you for this post a great reminder that God is not finished with any city until the trumpet sounds...and I am reminded of His word that says that it will "be according to our faith..." Let our FAITH in Him be HUGE!
